Becoming a vegetarian?
There are many reasons to become vegetarian or, better, vegan. It is evident that we eat more meat than we should, something that is not only bad for our health, but also for the environment. It is no less true that domestic animals are mistreated in farms where they can barely move, so that they get fat as soon as possible and reach our supermarkets at the lowest possible cost. But, a vegetarian can not claim that it does not contribute to the death of animals. Necessarily, for us to live, other animals have to die, and even if we only fed on vegetables, many animals would disappear because of it.
If we are what we eat, our food is what eats our food. Plants acquire nutrients from the soil, which is composed, among other things, of decomposed animals and plants. So even those who assume that they subsist solely on a plant diet are actually eating animals as well.
It is not even so clear that plants do not have the capacity to feel, which is the main reason why vegans decide not to eat animals.
A vegetarian diet avoids many of the problems associated with diets rich in meat, such as excess saturated fats, cholesterol and lack of fiber. But there are certain pathologies associated with vegetarianism: in the very long term, some stones in the kidney due to the presence of oxalic and sialic acid in many vegetables. In a diet very neglected, because some amino acids are missing.
Many doctors say that a healthy diet would not be healthy without the contribution of calcium from cow's milk, or animal protein.
In conclusion, in society, being vegetarian is not very practical AND PERSONALLY I WOULD NOT EVER CONVERT IN VEGETARIAN.
Perhaps, to avoid killing animals, the only solution is to stop eating. And then they will have something to feed on the plants.
TITLE: Becoming a vegetarian?
DEADLINE: 13 May at 24.00
INSTRUCTIONS:
As you know, millions of people are vegetarian. They are convinced that a vegetarian diet is good for them and for the environment.
Would you consider becoming a vegetarian?
Think of what you would gain and what you would have to give up. Do you think your health would be better? Would it mean having to spend more money? Would your social life suffer?
Think of the ethical side of it: being a vegetarian means not contributing to the killing of animals for food? Would that be important for you?
And there's also an environmental side to it: millions of square kilometres are used for animals to graze (specially cows). This enormous extension would be more productive if crops were planted to feed people not animal. Think of the enormous amount of methane (a green house gas much more powerful than carbon dioxide) produced by hundreds of millions of cows, etc.
WRITE a text commenting on it all. PLEASE, answer the question in as much detail as possible:
Would you consider becoming a vegetarian?
Make sure your essay has in introduction , the reasons you will be using and their explanation and your conclusion.
